About SAF Media Scanner
SAF Media Scanner is an Android utility for scanning audio files through the Storage Access Framework and building a database for compatible classical music players. It recognizes classical metadata such as composers, works, movements, and conductors, in addition to common audio tags. The scanner supports multiple formats, including MP3, MP4, FLAC, and OGG. The app can perform a complete rebuild or an incremental scan after files change. It supports multi-disc albums organized in nested CD folders, reads both common and less common tags, and recognizes additional classical music tags. It can extract embedded album art, resize images to a configurable maximum, and optionally retain original images as backups. Because it uses the system file access framework, SAF Media Scanner can access USB storage on supported Android versions and can work with SMB or SFTP locations when a compatible document provider is installed. It can also process non-seekable files by reading them into memory first. The resulting SQLite database is used by compatible players to browse classical libraries with composer and work information. Scans can be run manually or configured to update incrementally.
