About SearchLauncher
SearchLauncher is an Android launcher organized around a search field. It can find installed apps, app shortcuts, contacts, settings, downloads, upcoming calendar events, text snippets, and user-defined actions. Search ranking learns from the results the user selects. A query can also be interpreted as a calculation, web address, timer request, phone number, or email address, and the app offers an appropriate action such as copying a result, opening a page, setting a timer, or composing a message. Search can extend into websites through one-letter shortcuts, and users can add custom site searches. Web results open in the launcher’s built-in browser, which blocks ads and trackers by default. Browser features include tabs with live previews, private windows, file uploads, picture-in-picture video, hardware-keyboard shortcuts, saved pages, and search history. Widgets can be added by searching for their names, resized, and hidden or shown with a tap on the wallpaper. Tablet layouts arrange widgets in columns. The launcher can be used as the phone’s default home screen or as a widget within another launcher. Appearance options include wallpapers, color matching, dark mode, true black mode, favorites, and voice search. Setup data can be exported and imported. By default, the app says it sends nothing. Web suggestions are optional; when enabled, the query is sent to the provider associated with the selected shortcut. Contacts and calendar entries are searched locally and are not uploaded, and crash reporting is opt-in. This makes the search experience configurable, with local results available without enabling external suggestions.
