About securefs
securefs creates a user-space filesystem that transparently encrypts files as they are written and decrypts them when they are read. A user can work with files through the mounted filesystem interface while the underlying stored data remains encrypted. This lets applications access files in their normal workflow without requiring each application to implement its own encryption. The product’s role is the encrypted filesystem layer, which sits between programs and file storage. Its use depends on the filesystem setup and the keys or configuration used to access it. securefs addresses data at rest in the managed filesystem; users still need to protect access to the mounted view and maintain any required recovery material.
