About Select Text to Search
Select Text to Search adds a web-search action to Android’s text-selection toolbar. When text is selected in another app, the user can send it to a web search without first copying it and opening a browser manually. The app also appears as a share target for text, so selected or shared text can be sent for searching through the Android share menu. Users can configure the default search engine in the app’s settings. Those settings can be opened from the app’s Custom Tabs toolbar or from its system app-info page. The selection-toolbar action requires Android 6.0 or later, and that is also the minimum version listed for the app. The app adds a shortcut to the system’s existing text-selection and sharing workflows; it does not itself provide a standalone search engine or browser. Its purpose is to turn selected text into a web search using the search engine the user has configured.
