About Solid Share
Solid Share is an Android app for managing files, contacts, and passes stored in a personal Solid pod. A pod is a personal data store hosted by a provider or by the user. The app connects directly to the pod rather than keeping a separate service-side copy. Users can sign in to multiple pods, browse files, upload items, capture photos or videos for upload, and open common file types in the app. It also reports unread notifications, access requests, and files that changed while the user was away. Files and folders can be shared with a named Solid user or with anyone who has a link. Access can be set to view, add, or edit, and can be changed or revoked later. Each share creates a link and QR code. Users can also manage requests for access and review which apps on the phone have permission to use the pod, granting view, add, edit, or full access to selected areas. These app permissions remain on the device. Solid Share includes a wallet for tickets, passes, loyalty cards, and coupons, plus an address book stored in a standard contact-card format. It can import pass files and contacts, sync contacts with Android, and suggest near-duplicate contacts for review before merging. Items already viewed are available offline, and writes queue until a connection returns; files can be pinned for offline use. The app is intended for people using the Solid personal-data ecosystem who want local control over sharing and app access. It supports several languages and works across Solid servers. The described offline storage is encrypted on the device; the app itself has no central server.
