About spec-watcher
spec-watcher is a terminal dashboard for keeping track of specifications and their implementation progress inside a software project. It continuously monitors a project’s documentation or specifications folder and presents the available specs in a live, navigable table. For each item, the dashboard shows its name, current status, and task progress, giving a developer or team a compact view of what is planned and what remains underway. Opening an individual spec provides a detail view where tasks can be checked off and the status can be changed. The tool also flags mismatches between those two kinds of information. For example, it can call attention to a spec marked complete while tasks remain, or to a spec whose tasks are finished even though its status has not been updated. This helps surface project tracking drift before a summary becomes misleading. The dashboard is aware of the current local Git branch, which can help relate the displayed work to the branch being used. It also offers a headless mode that emits JSON or Markdown, allowing the same specification status information to be consumed in continuous integration workflows. Together, the interactive view, in-place updates, and machine-readable output support both day-to-day development and automated reporting.
