Spool Maker

Spool Maker is an Android app for reading and writing NFC tags used on compatible 3D-printer filament spools.

About Spool Maker

Spool Maker is an Android app for reading and writing NFC tags used on compatible 3D-printer filament spools. It can read original tags and tags written by the app, displaying details such as material, spool weights, dates, batch and station data, and integrity information. Raw tag data and decoded values can also be inspected and copied for technical review. Users can create new compatible tags on writable NFC media and choose a material profile, total spool weight, and remaining amount. Material profiles can be imported from printer-material XML files and managed in a local library. For tags written with Spool Maker, the date field can represent manufacturing, purchase, opening, creation, or no date. Before writing, the app checks the tag type and relevant lock or protection areas; afterward, it reads the tag back to verify the write. Spool Maker works locally without internet access, accounts, ads, tracking, or telemetry. It is an independent community app, not an official printer manufacturer product. Compatibility can vary by printer model and firmware. The product information says NTAG215 support is included but has not been tested with a printer, while original tags examined for the project use NTAG216.
