About StoryGame
StoryGame is a creative writing prompt app that generates sixteen words and invites the player to use them in a story. Words are selected pseudorandomly from a built-in list of one hundred. The player chooses which words to include and the app records them in the order selected, creating a visible sequence to guide the story. The game does not judge whether a story is logical or correct; any interpretation is accepted. The activity can be done individually or as a group. In a group, one person can begin a story using one of the words, and each next player continues it using another word. The prompts are intentionally open to interpretation, so a word can be used in different ways and the story can take an unexpected direction. Players can use their own vocabulary by selecting a text file with one word per line. This allows the prompt set to be tailored for a theme, a language exercise, or a particular group. StoryGame is useful as a lightweight storytelling exercise for people who want a starting point for creative writing or a collaborative improvisation game. Its simple numbered list of prompts keeps the focus on inventing a story, with no scoring or “wrong answer” condition.
