About SubSonicSter

SubSonicSter is a companion app for playing music as part of a Hitster-style card game. Players scan the QR code on a game card, and the app uses a configured music server and a song-mapping file to find and play the corresponding track. This connects physical cards to a personal music collection, letting a group identify songs by listening during play. To set it up, a user configures access to a compatible SubSonic music server and imports or downloads CSV files that map card QR codes to songs. The app scans a card, looks up the matching track through the server’s API, and streams the audio with buffering. It also supports configuring card sets and checking whether their mappings are available. A compatible server, mapping data, and QR-coded game cards are required. SubSonicSter focuses on music playback and card scanning for this game format; it does not provide the music collection itself. The described setup uses a self-hosted server, so the available songs depend on what the user has stored there and how the mapping file matches the cards. The app is described as having no telemetry or analytics, with data kept on the device and music server.
