About T16Fling
T16Fling is an Android keyboard arranged as a 4-by-4 grid of large keys. Each key has a primary character and one or more secondary characters. Tapping produces the primary character; quickly swiping, or “flinging,” in a direction enters a secondary character assigned to that direction. Long-pressing a key reveals additional related characters that can be tapped. For example, a key can enter a number on tap and letters on directional swipes. Holding it can expose accented variants or other related symbols. The layout therefore packs more characters into a small number of large touch targets, using gesture direction rather than a separate key for every letter. The keyboard includes shift and backspace keys, and the shift key can be flung upward to enable Caps Lock or downward to turn it off. The enter and backspace keys perform the same action whether tapped or flung. The zero key has a special behavior: any directional fling enters a space. To use T16Fling, it must first be enabled in Android’s keyboard settings and selected as the active input method. T16Fling is suited to users who prefer a compact grid and gesture-based typing over a conventional QWERTY layout. Its unusual input method may require practice, but large keys and the ability to access several characters from each position are central to its design.
