About Timidity AE
Timidity AE is an Android multimedia player focused on MIDI files. It uses the TiMidity++ synthesis engine and lets users choose soundfonts or patch sets, which provide the instrument sounds used to play MIDI arrangements. Multiple soundfonts can be selected, and users can adjust tempo, pitch, voice, and resampling settings to shape playback. For MIDI and MOD files, a multitrack mixer provides per-track instrument and volume controls. Custom instrument and volume configurations can be created, saved, and loaded. The player also supports Amiga MOD files alongside audio formats supported by Android, including MP3, OGG, and FLAC. MIDI or MOD playback can be exported as WAV audio, and compressed SoundFont archives in sfArk formats can be extracted. Music can be organized into folders and playlists, and playback controls are available through a notification. The app offers light and dark themes. It includes a soundfont whose license is described as allowing free distribution while prohibiting disassembly; users should pay attention to the terms attached to any soundfont they choose.
