About Torchie
Torchie turns an Android phone’s camera LED into a flashlight controlled by the volume buttons. Holding both volume keys together toggles the torch, giving users a physical shortcut when the screen is on or locked. The app can also be configured to respond while the screen is off. The flashlight can be operated through the button shortcut or from the standalone app interface. Torchie is designed to be lightweight and does not require root access, a plugin, or a system framework. The description says battery use is negligible by default, but allowing volume-button activation while the screen is off can use additional power. Torchie provides a direct way to turn the camera flash on and off without opening quick settings or a notification shade. It is useful when the user wants a hardware-button shortcut or needs to operate the torch from the lock screen. Its function depends on the phone having a camera LED and on Android allowing the app to monitor the volume-button combination in the chosen screen state.
