About Voice Memos
Voice Memos is an on-device voice recorder with an inline player and a waveform-based trim editor. Recordings appear together in a list; tapping an entry expands playback controls within its row, and a prominent control starts a new recording. Recording can continue when the app is in the background, and users can pause, resume, or discard a take. A live waveform and timer show progress as audio is captured. The recorder supports AAC/M4A, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, and Opus formats, each with three quality levels. Stereo recording, Bluetooth microphones, silence skipping, and optional pausing when a call arrives are available. Playback can be scrubbed along the waveform, moved backward or forward by 15 seconds, and played at several speeds. Media controls are also available through a notification. The trim editor lets users mark a section of the waveform to keep or remove. Edits can be previewed, and the result is saved as a new recording so the original remains intact. Users can search, rename, favorite, and share recordings. Deleted items remain in a Recently Deleted area for 30 days, and home-screen widgets provide access to recent recordings or one-tap recording. Voice Memos stores audio in the device’s own audio folder and works without network access, ads, tracking, or analytics. Microphone and audio-file access are needed for recording and playback; notifications provide recording and media controls. Optional permissions support pausing on calls and adding approximate location information to M4A files. The interface offers English and two forms of Chinese.
