About Wasted

Wasted is an emergency device-control app that can lock a phone and optionally wipe its data. A trigger can come from a PanicKit action, tile, shortcut, or message containing a secret code. Instead of wiping, the app can also send a broadcast message. Other trigger conditions include a device remaining locked for a set time, a USB data connection while the device is locked, launching a fake messenger app, or entering a duress password through a companion component. Wasted can be used in a work profile, where its actions can wipe that profile’s data without wiping the entire device, subject to work-profile limitations. The app relies on Android’s Device Administration API for locking and optional wiping, and uses background services and startup handling for some monitoring and scheduled actions. The supplied information notes that only an encrypted device can ensure wiped data is not recoverable. The app’s behavior depends on which triggers and permissions are configured, and work-profile use has limitations. Wasted provides device actions in response to configured events; it does not itself establish that stored information is encrypted.
