About WhisperType Keyboard
WhisperType is an Android keyboard with a full QWERTY layout and optional offline speech dictation. The keyboard includes numbers, symbols, a categorized emoji picker, long-press accents, and extra symbols. Typing controls include shift and caps lock, automatic sentence capitalization, double-space punctuation, and a swipe gesture for deleting words. On-device word suggestions and clipboard history are also available. For dictation, users tap the microphone key and speak; speech is converted to text on the device. Dictation stops after 30 seconds, with a warning at 25 seconds. Users can download one of the provided Whisper speech models or import a compatible model archive. Initial setup requires enabling the keyboard in Android’s keyboard settings, selecting it as the input method, granting microphone access, and downloading or importing a model. WhisperType does not require an API key. Its description says audio, clipboard contents, and learned words remain on the device. Model downloads occur only when selected by the user; importing a model can be done offline. The keyboard is open source and uses sherpa-onnx for on-device recognition.
