About Xournal++
Xournal++ is a note-taking application for handwritten notes, sketches, and PDF annotation. It supports pressure-sensitive styluses and digital pen tablets, with tools for drawing, highlighting, erasing, and adding text. Users can write on paper-like backgrounds or use pages as scratch space and whiteboards. PDFs can be annotated directly: users can select and copy text from the background document, highlight or underline it, strike it through, and follow links. The app provides page previews, PDF bookmarks, and editable layers in a sidebar. Drawing tools include lines, arrows, circles, rectangles, and other shapes, with rulers and compass tools for precise construction. Notes can include inserted images and LaTeX content, which requires a working LaTeX installation. Xournal++ can export to formats including SVG, PNG, and PDF, through both its graphical interface and command line. It also supports audio recording and playback alongside handwritten notes, autosave and backups, customizable toolbars, and Lua plugins. It is available for GNU/Linux, macOS, and Windows, and supports stylus button mappings and multiple languages. These features make it useful for handwritten notes, classroom work, diagramming, and marking up technical documents.
