About zinna-IME
zinna-IME is an offline Japanese keyboard for Android with flick, QWERTY, and kana-flick layouts. It converts Japanese input using a conversion engine bundled in the app, so text is processed locally without a network connection. A second symbol plane provides punctuation, brackets, arrows, mathematical symbols, and other marks. Users can choose whether a held key previews its output or shows the four-direction flick alternatives. Repeated presses enter repeated characters rather than cycling through options. Conversion includes rule-based correction for likely mistyped readings, taking the physical arrangement of the flick keyboard into account. Candidate ranking favors exact conversions of the text already entered instead of guessing about an unfinished reading. Bundled dictionaries cover a range of names and terms, including loanwords and article titles. Conversion history and the user dictionary are encrypted with a key held in Android Keystore. Settings, learned data, and dictionary contents can be exported together in a passphrase-protected file and imported on another device. Clipboard history stays local and omits content marked sensitive by its source. Themes and layouts can be replaced with JSON files. The keyboard supports dark mode, Material You colors, user-selected backgrounds, adjustable height, and a pure-black OLED style. It declares no permissions, including internet access.
