About BurnPony

BurnPony creates encrypted notes that can be shared through a link and configured to expire or self-destruct after a selected number of views. Encryption takes place on the sender’s device, and the decryption key is included in the fragment portion of the link, which the product says is not sent to the server. Users can set a view limit, an expiry period, an optional passphrase, and a timer that hides a revealed note again. Read receipts are disclosed to recipients before they open a note. A QR code can transfer the full link in person, and private labels help organize notes locally. The app’s description states an important limit: anyone with the complete link and passphrase, if set, can read the note, and recipients can copy or photograph it while visible. Expiry limits future access but cannot control what happens during reading. BurnPony can use its hosted service or a server configured by the user.
