Clear SMS is an Android messaging app that organizes incoming messages into categories such as important, promotional, personal, one-time passwords, and unknown. Classification is handled by a rules engine based on regular expressions. The rules are represented in human-readable JSON and can be inspected and edited, rather than being hidden in a machine-learning model. The app includes a large collection of community-maintained rules and a sender-ID directory. Messages can be searched in full text and filtered by category or time, and heuristic flags can call attention to possible scams. A finance dashboard extracts debit and credit transactions from bank messages and summarizes accounts, cards, balances, and spending. An optional biometric lock can protect the balance view. The Alerts section brings together due dates for bills, automatic payments, insurance, and credit cards, as well as travel and package-delivery information. Messaging features include sending and receiving SMS and MMS, dual-SIM support, scheduled messages, drafts, delivery reports, pinned conversations, blocked senders and keywords, and a recycle bin with 30-day retention. One-time-password notifications can be enlarged and copied, with optional automatic copying and deletion. Clear SMS is designed to work locally on the device and states that it does not request internet permission, use analytics, or send data to servers. Local backup and restore cover messages and settings. MMS still uses the Android system’s network transaction with the carrier. The app offers dynamic color on newer Android versions and light, dark, or system themes. Its categorization rules are editable, which allows users to inspect how messages are sorted. The inbox categories can be understood through their editable rules, allowing the user to inspect why a message was classified and adjust matching patterns. Finance extraction turns transaction messages into account and card summaries, while the Alerts view gathers several kinds of time-sensitive information in one place. Full SMS and MMS support means the app is both an organizer and a messaging client, not just a read-only inbox. MMS images are compressed on-device. Dual-SIM support, scheduled messages, drafts, delivery reports, pinned conversations, blocked senders, and keyword blocks provide additional controls for routine messaging.
