About Do The Thing

Do The Thing is a local-first task manager that ranks tasks and surfaces what to focus on each day. It supports simple to-dos, deadlines, recurring items, tasks on randomized intervals, annual dates, timed goals, and daily habit check-ins. A two-factor ranking system considers urgency and importance, with automatic escalation and a ceiling on each task’s priority. Users can choose among five coaching styles that shape daily briefings, check-ins, and evening summaries. Notifications can be adjusted in intensity and scheduled for a daily cadence, with a weekly review. The app can create local backups automatically on a weekly rotation or let users export a copy themselves. It is fully offline, with no account, cloud sync, ads, analytics, or tracking. Do The Thing combines task scheduling and prioritization with prompts intended to help users follow through on selected work.
