About Field Survey

Field Survey is a mobile app for collecting structured observations in the field. Surveys are defined by YAML templates that specify sections, nested sections, and the variables each record can contain. Supported variable types include text, integers, decimals, booleans, dates and times, selectable options, maps, photos, and Markdown. This allows a survey to combine location, paths, polygons, images, and typed measurements in one record. After importing a template from a local file, URL, or QR code, users can capture observations with automatic timestamps, one-tap GPS, and photos attached directly to records. Completed data can be exported as XLSX or ODS spreadsheets for analysis. The app requests internet access for map tiles and linked template imports, location for map positioning, camera access for photo fields, and storage access for image attachments and exports. Field Survey is designed for local collection without requiring an account or third-party cloud. It is described as alpha software and has not been tested at large scale. The product warns users to verify exports and keep independent backups. Synchronization to a user’s own server and additional variable types are listed as future plans, not current features.
