About Fossy Protokoll
Fossy Protokoll is an Android app for documenting defects in a rented home and assembling a factual record for the landlord. Users can manage tenant and rental-unit information, categorize issues such as noise, mould, heating, damp, plumbing, electrical problems, doors, or pests, and record individual occurrences. Entries can include a time period, room, severity, impact, witnesses, and notes, with photos and captions attached to defects or specific occurrences. Records can be assembled into a protocol covering a chosen period and refreshed later. The app can also generate a defect notification addressed to the landlord. Both documents can be exported as PDF with embedded photos or as Markdown. The app stores information in a local database and photos in private app storage; it has no network access, tracking, or analytics. Android automatic backup is disabled, while user-created ZIP backups can be restored on another device. The interface and generated documents are in German and follow German rental practices. The app explicitly documents defects rather than providing legal advice: it cites no laws, sets no rent reduction claim or response deadline, and includes a response date only if the user enters one. It is free and open source under GPL version 3 or later.
