About Jiten Japanese Dictionary
Jiten Japanese Dictionary is an offline Japanese reference and study app. It includes multilingual dictionary entries for words and kanji, with readings, meanings, and related information. Word meanings are available in English, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish. Users can browse entries by frequency or Japanese Language Proficiency Test level, and word entries include pitch-accent information. The kanji tools include readings and meanings, related dictionary entries, radicals, handwritten-character recognition, and search by radical or SKIP code. Browsing can be organized by frequency, level, JLPT rank, or SKIP. Example sentences are provided with translations in the supported languages, and some include audio. A stroke-order tool shows how to write an entered word or sentence. Search options range from ordinary lookup to fine-grained regular-expression searches. Romaji can be converted to hiragana, and hiragana and katakana can be converted between each other. Long-press tooltips quickly show readings or meanings for words and kanji, while local search history, dark mode, and link sharing support everyday use. The dictionary data, including audio, is bundled with the offline app, which accounts for a larger download. The first launch or a launch after an update may take longer while data is loaded; later starts are described as faster. Jiten is suited to learners and readers who want dictionary lookup, kanji exploration, example sentences, and writing references without depending on an internet connection.
