About mpv-android
mpv-android is an Android media player for listening to music and watching videos. It offers both hardware and software video decoding, letting playback use either the device’s video decoder or software decoding. Playback can be controlled with gestures, including seeking through a video and adjusting volume or screen brightness. The player supports styled subtitles through libass and can display a second subtitle track alongside the primary one. Its advanced video settings include options such as interpolation, debanding, and scaling filters, allowing viewers to adjust how motion and images are rendered. For content hosted online, an Open URL function can open network streams. Playback can continue in the background, and the app supports Picture-in-Picture, which keeps video visible in a small movable window while using other apps. It also accepts keyboard input. Together, these features cover local media playback, streamed video, subtitle viewing, and controls for both touch and keyboard use on Android. The supplied description does not specify particular media file formats or network streaming protocols, so support for those should not be assumed from the feature list alone.
