About Next Player
Next Player is an Android video player with support for a broad set of local audio and video formats, streaming protocols, and subtitle types. The media picker can browse by tree, folder, or file. Users can select audio and subtitle tracks, adjust playback speed, pinch to zoom, and resize the picture to fit, stretch, crop, or display at full size. External subtitles can be loaded, and volume boost and picture-in-picture are available. Playback controls use gestures: vertical swipes adjust brightness or volume, while horizontal swipes seek through a video. Controls can be locked during playback. The app supports formats including common compressed audio and video codecs, DASH, HLS, RTSP, and subtitle formats such as SRT, SSA, ASS, TTML, and VTT. Exact codec support can depend on the Android version and device. Next Player is open source, free, and has no ads or tracking, according to its description. It uses Material 3 theming and is still in development, so bugs may occur. Its combination of local file browsing, streaming, subtitles, playback gestures, and picture-in-picture provides a flexible player for Android devices.
