Nocean is an offline rich-text notes app for Android. Notes and attached media are stored in the app’s private storage, and the app does not request internet permission. The editor supports heading levels, bold and italic text, and font selection for individual text ranges. Several fonts are bundled with the app and work without a network connection or external services. Notes can include images, video, and audio. Tapping media opens a full-screen viewer with pinch zoom for images or a player for audio and video. Users can pin notes to the top of the list without changing a note’s edited date. Search supports plain substring matching, fuzzy subsequence matching, and case-insensitive regular expressions; the chosen mode is remembered. Note information includes word, character, and paragraph counts, media totals, and created and edited dates. Nocean can export all notes and their media together in a ZIP backup and restore that archive on another device. During import, a note replaces an existing one only if the imported note is newer. Users can share a note’s text to another app or share text into Nocean to create a new note. The interface includes several named themes, along with automatic, light, and dark appearance options; some themes are limited to light or dark mode, and real blur effects are available on Android 12 and later. Nocean is designed for local note keeping and media attachments, rather than cloud synchronization or collaborative editing. Search can use three distinct matching methods: exact substring, fuzzy subsequence, or a case-insensitive regular expression. Users cycle between them from the search field, and the selected method is remembered. A note’s information panel reports text counts, media totals, and creation or edit dates, which can help manage a large collection. Pinning a note changes its position in the list without changing its edited timestamp. These details support organization while keeping notes local. Exporting a ZIP includes the note content and associated media, and restore applies a newer imported note over an older copy.
