About Open Eats Journal

Open Eats Journal is an Android food and weight log for recording meals, calorie intake, and nutritional values. Users can search for foods by scanning barcodes, use entries from an online food database, or create their own foods. Each food can have multiple serving sizes. Intake can be recorded from a food entry or as a quick entry, and individual entries, meals, or whole days can be copied to speed up logging. Calorie targets can be set separately for each weekday. The app provides detailed statistics and supports recording weight. Units can be metric or imperial, and the interface is available in English and German. Data remains on the device, with import and export available for user-controlled portability. A dark mode is included. Open Eats Journal is intended for personal nutrition tracking, not as medical or dietary advice. Food records and calculated totals depend on the accuracy of entries and the underlying food information. Integration with an external food database expands the available catalog, while user-created foods let people record items not found there.
