About openCook
openCook is an offline-first recipe manager for collecting, planning, and cooking meals. Users can create recipes, import them from the web, or browse recipe sites inside the app. Recipes can be organized and remain available offline. A rolling meal planner suggests dishes and explains why each suggestion was made, while a shared shopping list helps coordinate ingredients. Barcode scanning can retrieve food information from an external food database. An optional self-hosted server adds photo scanning that turns cookbook images into structured recipes and allows family synchronization over a home network. There is no cloud account or registration; the server runs on hardware managed by the user. The core recipe collection, planner, and shopping list work offline on the device. openCook is available in English, German, and French and is open source. Its intended workflow combines a personal recipe library with meal planning and shopping. The optional server is needed for the image-scanning and family-sync functions, while the basic recipe management works without it.
