About Otoscope

Otoscope is an Android viewer for compatible Wi-Fi otoscope cameras. It replaces the cameras’ basic companion viewer with an app focused on connecting to the device and displaying its live video. A camera can be discovered over Bluetooth Low Energy or Wi-Fi. The app can join the camera’s own Wi-Fi access point for the viewing session, so the phone’s other network traffic is not redirected through that connection. The live stream is decoded in the app, supporting cameras that use UDP or RTSP. The image can rotate in response to the camera’s onboard motion sensors, and a horizontal mirror option supports self-examination. A circular mask matches the shape of the otoscope lens. Users can capture still photos or video, then review, share, or delete those recordings in the built-in gallery. An optional caption can be burned into a capture to identify what is being recorded. The app lists support for several camera families identified by their Wi-Fi network names, including Xylla, iTiMO, JEGOAT, EarFairy, Soulear, and Y38. Compatibility therefore depends on the camera using one of the supported protocols and families. Otoscope is open-source under GPL-3.0-or-later and is described as containing no third-party trackers, advertising SDKs, or proprietary native libraries. Otoscope is useful for viewing and recording the image from a compatible camera, with basic orientation and capture tools. It does not provide a general medical diagnostic workflow; its supplied description covers connection and video viewing rather than interpretation of findings.
