About pcontacts
pcontacts synchronizes contacts from a Proton Mail account into Android’s system address book. It signs in, decrypts contacts on the device, and exposes them to the system Contacts app. Contact fields include names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, organizations, notes, messaging handles, photos, and group membership. Changes made in Android Contacts can be synchronized back to the account with end-to-end encryption. The app supports two-factor authentication, background synchronization, per-field conflict detection, and a one-hour grace period for soft-deleted contacts so accidental removals can be cancelled. It does not use analytics, tracking, or Google Play Services. A key practical consideration is that contacts placed in Android’s system address book may be readable by other apps that have contact access. On stock Android, some preinstalled apps may have that access by default or be difficult to restrict. The app’s own description therefore warns that the privacy of synchronized contacts depends on the device’s permission environment. Its connection uses an undocumented service API that may change, so compatibility can vary over time.
