About Pitak
Pitak is an offline-first Android catalogue for organizing a personal book collection and tracking loans. Users can add, edit, search, sort, and filter books, capture cover images on the device, and scan ISBN barcodes to look up book details. The lookup checks more than one bibliographic source in sequence and caches results. Books can be soft-deleted and restored, and a wishlist can track titles a user hopes to acquire before moving them into the catalogue. Borrowers and loan records are held in a separate encrypted vault. The vault uses AES-256-GCM encryption with a passphrase-derived key, and optional biometric unlocking is available. An app lock can also place a biometric or device-credential gate before the library screen. These controls help separate lending records and access to the catalogue from ordinary browsing. Pitak supports import and export in JSON and CSV, including importing a CSV from Goodreads. It can generate paginated PDF catalogues, with support for Indic scripts, and create portable backup archives that can later be restored. Users may optionally publish a read-only version of their library as a website; the product description says personal information can be redacted for this view. The app is local-first, and network requests happen only when the user explicitly performs an ISBN lookup, publishes the read-only library, or opts into remote cover retrieval. The book-management workflow combines a searchable catalogue, lending records, wishlist, and portable data exports, making Pitak suited to readers who want to keep an organized inventory and track books loaned to others.
