About Pocket Prose
Pocket Prose is an Android writing app for a folder of Markdown notes. Users can point it at an existing directory or start a new notebook. Notes are organized using tags in their frontmatter, with nested categories represented by slash-separated tag paths. The app is designed to work directly with files rather than importing notes into a separate internal database. A plain Markdown editor supports a source view, headings, relative images, and attachments. Notes can be searched across their full text and filtered by tag, attachments, or duplicate titles. They can be sorted by last change, creation date, title, or length. Multiple notes can be selected to retag, merge, or delete, and text shared from another app can become a new note. The app supports scratch lines that can be hidden while reading; these remain ordinary text in the file. Pocket Prose avoids rewriting unrelated parts of a note, renaming files to match titles, or adding app-specific IDs. If a file changes outside the app, conflicts are surfaced rather than automatically merged or deleted. Files are saved atomically so synchronization software does not see a partially written note. The entire folder can be exported as a ZIP while retaining file contents. Pocket Prose has no account, telemetry, network permission, or cloud service, and is intended for writers who want to keep a Markdown archive in their own folder. It supports English and German.
