About Scratchpad Launcher

Scratchpad Launcher is an Android home launcher divided between an always-visible text scratchpad and a small list of frequently used apps. The scratchpad saves as the user types, survives reboots, and is stored locally. It is excluded from Android backups. Light Markdown formatting includes headings, emphasis, underlining, strikethrough, highlighting, code, links, lists, and tappable to-do checkboxes. The launcher’s app area avoids icons and clutter. Users can rename, hide, and align the listed apps, or swipe up and type to search; when only one match remains, it opens automatically. Gestures include double-tap screen lock, left or right swipes to open apps, and a downward swipe for notifications or search. Separate text sizes are available for the scratchpad and app list, with light and dark themes. The product also supports dual apps, work profiles, and private spaces. An optional sync feature mirrors the scratchpad as a Markdown file in a chosen folder. The app is open source and described as having no accounts, tracking, or data collection. Its accessibility service is optional, disabled by default, and used only for the double-tap screen-lock gesture. Scratchpad Launcher is intended for people who want quick note-taking directly from the home screen alongside a minimal app launcher, without first opening a separate notes app. The home screen keeps the note field visible alongside the app shortcuts, so a user can capture a thought as soon as the phone is unlocked. The launcher is designed around a compact set of apps rather than a full grid, with search as the path to other installed apps. Notes can include structured markup and checkboxes, while the optional Markdown-file mirror allows the scratchpad to appear in a user-selected folder. The product describes local storage as excluded from system backups, and the optional accessibility service is limited to screen locking. These design choices make the launcher function as both a quick jotting surface and a pared-down app entry point.
