About SMSecure
SMSecure is an SMS messaging app with optional end-to-end encrypted conversations between compatible users. When both people use software that supports the same encryption protocol, messages can be encrypted and contacts can be verified using QR codes or safety numbers. Without a compatible contact, SMSecure can still send and receive ordinary SMS messages without requiring an account or central messaging service. The app can block unknown or alphanumeric senders, search across conversations, and create or restore message backups. Messages are handled on the device, and the app is described as having no ads or data collection. MMS is not supported in the described version, so it cannot send, receive, display, or download multimedia messages. Regular SMS remains unencrypted by the app and is handled by the mobile network.
