About TransektCount

TransektCount is an Android field-recording app for counting butterflies and day-flying moths along a defined survey transect. A transect is divided into sections, and the app records species-specific counts within each section, following the European Butterfly Monitoring Scheme method described in its product information. Each survey uses a database associated with a transect; users can create or customize databases with survey metadata, section definitions, and the species expected in each area. The app includes a prepared starting database and an internal list of many European species. Species lists can be edited by adding or removing species and changing their terms, and transect sections can be duplicated or deleted. On the counter page, the observer selects a section and species, then records counts. Separate counters distinguish internal and external counting areas and allow separate totals for males, females, individuals of indeterminate sex, pupae, caterpillars, and eggs. Species records can also include notes or bulk count entries. The results view summarizes metadata, notes, totals, species counts, and results for each transect section. Data can be exported as formatted XLSX or CSV files, or as an SQLite database for later review or processing. Species lists can be exported for later use or imported from another compatible workflow. Optional GPS support can indicate when the observer has moved into a different transect section, while storage access is used for importing and exporting survey data. The app supports German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish, with local species names in those languages. Its described coverage is European butterflies, and it supports Android 11 or newer.
