About 0x56erify

0x56erify is an offline Android utility for checking file checksums. A user selects a file through the system document picker, and the app computes its SHA-256 or SHA-512 hash. That value can be copied or shared, or compared with an expected hash pasted into the app. The result is shown clearly as a match or mismatch, helping verify that a file agrees with a separately obtained checksum. The app streams file contents through the hash calculation, so large files do not need to be loaded fully into memory. Hash comparison ignores letter case and tolerates whitespace, making it easier to paste values from different formatted sources. Files are accessed through Android’s system picker only for the operation, rather than granting broad storage access. All processing happens on-device. 0x56erify requests no network access and is described as having no ads, analytics, or accounts, with no dependency on Google Play Services or Firebase. It is free, open-source software under Apache License 2.0. The app is useful when checking that a downloaded or transferred file matches a checksum supplied separately. It calculates and compares hashes, but the verification is only as trustworthy as the expected hash value used for comparison; the app does not itself establish who published that value.
