About AFWall+
AFWall+ is a root-required Android firewall front end for controlling network access. It provides rules that let users manage which applications can use network connections. The app relies on the system’s iptables firewall and requires root privileges; iptables must be able to run as root for its controls to work. Rules can be imported from or exported to external storage, and an application search helps locate apps in a longer installed-app list. Multiple profiles with custom names let users maintain different sets of rules and switch between them. System applications can be highlighted with a chosen color, and the app can notify the user when new applications are installed so their network access can be reviewed. AFWall+ includes VPN support and an option to use device-administrator status to help protect against removal. These features complement its central role of applying per-application network rules. The exact filtering behavior depends on the root environment and the device’s firewall support. AFWall+ is intended for users comfortable managing a rooted Android device who want direct control over application network access. It is not suitable for an unrooted device, since the root requirement is essential to its firewall operation.
