About Blitzortung Gewitter-Monitor
Blitzortung Gewitter-Monitor shows current and recent lightning activity on a map. It displays real-time strikes and up to 24 hours of historical data across Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Australia/New Zealand. Strike times are color-coded, and the app reports the current strike time and lightning count. A raster map keeps the display responsive during periods of heavy activity. Participants in the lightning network can view individual strike locations. The app can show the user’s location or use a location chosen manually on the map. An alert feature reports the direction and distance of nearby storms, with a background service and optional notification, sound, and vibration alarms. Location permission is not required if the user sets a location manually. For map data requests, the app uses the visible map area or device location rounded to a five-degree grid and fetches recent activity for that broad area. This supports regional lightning display while limiting the precision of the transmitted location.
