About BoatSpeedy
BoatSpeedy is an Android navigation and instrumentation app for small boats, including motorboats, canoes, and boats powered by paddling or oars. Users can set a destination and view a straight-line course or a route along mapped waterways, with distance and estimated draft considerations. Offline map tiles and waterway route data can be downloaded to the device, with route coverage described for trips up to 600 km. The app displays speed in kilometres per hour or knots and can record trips with the screen off through a foreground service. Trip history includes distance, elapsed time, and battery energy measures, and can be imported or exported as GPX. Navigation details include locks, weirs, and seamarks; tapping a lock can show opening hours, phone details, and chamber size. Craft type affects which restrictions apply. The map can remain north-up or rotate to course-up. Bluetooth battery monitors can provide voltage, current, charge, remaining capacity, temperature, and cell information. The app can estimate range and remaining time from current speed and supports charge monitoring with an alert at a chosen level. A coulometer can be used for batteries without Bluetooth. Weather features include rain radar, nearby readings, wind direction, and storm warnings, while an anchor watch can alert if the boat drifts. BoatSpeedy uses map, waterway, seamark, and weather data from external services, and route lookup may query public map-data servers when matching offline tiles are unavailable. It is free and open source and does not require Google Play Services.
