About Briar Mailbox
Briar Mailbox is a helper app that receives encrypted messages for Briar while the main messaging app is offline. It is installed on a separate device and linked to a Briar account. While connected to power and Wi-Fi, the mailbox receives messages from contacts; when Briar comes online again, it automatically fetches them. The app extends Briar’s direct synchronization model by providing another device that can remain connected while the user’s phone is unavailable. It does not function as a standalone messenger and requires Briar to retrieve and display stored messages. Briar Mailbox is intended for users who need message delivery while the primary Briar device is offline. It must be paired with a Briar account and kept connected to power and Wi-Fi to serve this role.
