About CIFS Documents Provider
CIFS Documents Provider gives Android apps access to files on remote network storage through the Storage Access Framework. It supports SMB/CIFS shares, FTP, FTPS, and SFTP. Users can save multiple connection configurations and import or export those settings. Once configured, supported apps can open files and directories on the remote storage, save new files there, or transfer files. The provider can make network storage appear like a local document source, and notifications can keep longer tasks active when configured. This allows other apps to work with remote files—for example, a media player can open a file or a camera app can save to a shared folder—provided those apps support the Storage Access Framework. CIFS Documents Provider is not itself a full file manager; it exposes storage access to other apps. Some apps that assume local storage may not work correctly, and apps may crash when the provider is used as a destination for streaming audio or video data. The app is intended as a bridge between remote file services and Android apps that support document-provider access.
