About CimBar Scanner
CimBar Scanner transfers files and text between devices using animated color barcodes. To send, a user chooses a file or types a message, optionally adds a passphrase, and displays the barcode full-screen or shares it as an animated GIF. Another device can scan the animation with its camera, decode a single-frame barcode from a photo, or import a GIF. The received text can be copied or saved, and recovered files can be opened, saved, or shared. The barcode uses multiple frames and error correction, so frames can be scanned in any order and extra repair frames help recover a file if some frames are missed. The app can decompress files that were compressed before encoding. Optional AES-256-GCM encryption is detected automatically, and a passphrase can be entered after a live scan if the received content is encrypted. CimBar Scanner works offline and has no network access, account, ads, or tracking. It uses the camera to scan and can also show a barcode on the device’s screen for another camera to read. Its format is distinct from earlier color-barcode systems and does not read barcodes created in those formats.
