About Extirpater
Extirpater overwrites free space on a device’s storage with random data files and then deletes them. The purpose is to make previously deleted file contents more difficult to recover by replacing areas that the filesystem may no longer mark as occupied. It can also create many empty files with random names to push older deleted filenames out of some filesystem backup indexes. This process is intended for use after deleting files, removing apps, or preparing a device for transfer. It operates on unused space rather than on files that are still present in the filesystem. The description notes that device partitioning and flash-memory behavior prevent the tool from filling the entire drive, so it cannot guarantee complete erasure or recovery prevention. The app’s operation can place substantial write activity on storage. Its description warns that excessive use can damage the device.
