About Finder

Finder is an Android utility for requesting the location of a phone by SMS. The device running the app can respond to requests from numbers on a trusted list, provided the remote-response option is enabled. It can determine coordinates using GPS or information about nearby Wi-Fi networks and mobile cells. The SMS-based workflow is intended for situations where the phone’s internet connection may not be available. A separate tracker mode can be started manually on the phone. When active, it periodically sends coordinates to a trusted number; the receiving phone can parse those messages and display the route on a map. Tracks can be exported in GPX format for use in other navigation apps. The app can also ring the phone on request from a trusted number, even when Do Not Disturb is active, and then restore the previous volume after the alert ends. Setup matters. The requesting phone and responding phone must use matching commands, and trusted numbers must be configured in advance unless remote addition is enabled. GPS must be enabled for GPS location, and Android 6 or later requires location services to be on for Wi-Fi network scanning, even when the scan itself uses network information. Some system versions require additional settings for automatic GPS activation. Finder displays notifications for requests and responses, and its operation depends on SMS, location, and related permissions. The product description advises checking that it works on the actual device before relying on it; it is a location tool with device and configuration requirements, not a guarantee of recovery.
