About FiSSH
FiSSH links an Android phone’s fingerprint scanner with SSH authentication on a computer. The phone stores the SSH key passphrase and sends it across the local network to the computer after an authorized fingerprint is recognized. A desktop component receives the passphrase and supplies it to OpenSSH, which then completes the usual SSH login. FiSSH does not access the private key file itself; the described role is to provide the passphrase needed by the standard SSH process. The connection between phone and computer uses TLS sockets with certificate validation, according to the product description. Both devices need the FiSSH components configured, and they communicate over the local network. The desktop side is available for Linux and for Windows through the Windows Subsystem for Linux. The Android phone uses its fingerprint reader to trigger the transfer, so the workflow depends on a supported scanner and a reachable configured computer. This arrangement can reduce the need to type a long passphrase during SSH logins, while leaving key handling to OpenSSH. It is a focused authentication helper rather than a general remote-control or file-transfer tool. FiSSH is open-source software under the MIT license. Users should understand that the phone stores the passphrase and that the desktop receiver must be installed and configured for the exchange to work.
