FreeFTP is an Android client for managing files on user-selected servers through FTP, FTPS, or SFTP. It can browse directories, read text files without saving them to storage, upload and download files, rename or delete items, and create folders. Whole directories can be downloaded recursively with their structure preserved. Multi-select supports bulk operations, while a transfer queue provides progress, pause, resume, cancel, and retry. The app supports anonymous, password, and SSH-key authentication, including keys protected by passphrases. SFTP server host keys are checked: an unfamiliar key must be reviewed and accepted, and a changed key is rejected. FTPS certificates are verified, with a separate opt-in for self-signed certificates. Credentials and private keys are encrypted locally using a key held by Android’s Keystore. Downloads can go to the system Downloads folder or a folder chosen by the user. The app requests access only to the selected folder. It supports active and passive FTP modes, several server listing formats, UTF-8 negotiation, and resuming interrupted transfers. FreeFTP connects only to the server address entered by the user and is described as having no ads, analytics, tracking, or account requirement. It is intended for moving files between Android and a server, with transfer and server trust decisions visible to the user.
