About Hauk
Hauk is a self-hosted location-sharing app that lets a person share their live position with others for a chosen period. To start, the user configures the app to connect to a Hauk backend running on a server. The app then creates a unique link that can be sent to someone who needs to follow the trip on a map, for example when coordinating a meeting. Location sharing can continue while the app is minimized, so the person sharing does not need to keep the app open on screen. The share lasts only for the period the user chooses. Anyone who has the generated link can view the live location while sharing remains active, so the link is the means of access to that particular share. The app requires location access to determine the device's position, foreground operation to keep an active share running in the background, and an internet connection to communicate with the configured server. A Hauk backend is a required dependency; this is not a service that works without a server configured by the user. The app sends the location to that specified backend, which makes it suitable for people who want to operate their own sharing endpoint.
