About HostLookup
HostLookup is an Android DNS explorer for querying records through public resolvers and inspecting associated network information. It supports 25 DNS record types and can compare responses from a predefined set of resolvers. Individual records can be examined, and the app can look up WHOIS information, network prefixes, autonomous system numbers, and location details for discovered IP addresses, including mail and nameserver addresses. DNS queries can use UDP, TCP, DNS-over-TLS, or DNS-over-HTTPS. UDP and TCP requests are unencrypted. HostLookup also enriches IP information through an external network-data service. The resolver list and enrichment provider cannot be changed in settings, and those providers can see requests and the user’s public IP address. The app has no account, ads, analytics SDKs, or server of its own. The interface uses Material 3, with dynamic color on Android 12 and newer, and requires Android 8 or later. HostLookup is intended for exploring DNS and network infrastructure, with an important privacy distinction between encrypted and unencrypted query methods and the fixed external providers used for lookups.
