About Local NLP Backend

Local NLP Backend provides location estimates to compatible Android location frameworks using a database built from the phone’s nearby wireless emitters. It passively observes GPS, nearby Wi-Fi networks, and mobile towers, then records emitter locations. When a compatible location provider requests a position, it scans nearby emitters and estimates a location from the locally stored data. The database must first be populated, either through normal use while GPS is enabled or by importing compatible data. The app provides a basic interface for configuration and for importing or exporting databases and cell lists. An optional active mode can turn on GPS when no known emitter is nearby or an unknown emitter is detected, helping build the local database faster. Local NLP Backend uses no network data; information collected by the phone remains on the device unless the user exports it. Its location estimates depend on having enough local emitter information and may not be available until the database is built or imported. The backend integrates with UnifiedNlp and microG. The supplied description notes a compatibility limitation: newer microG versions stopped supporting these backends, so use requires an older compatible version. It is intended for users who want location estimates from locally collected radio data rather than a network lookup service.
