About MeshCore Signal Tester
MeshCore Signal Tester is an Android field tool for monitoring mesh radio traffic and comparing signal reception. It connects to a MeshCore companion radio over Bluetooth, USB-C serial, or Wi-Fi, and can connect to a repeater over USB. The connected device type is detected automatically. A foreground service keeps the device connection and GPS capture active while the phone is in a pocket or the screen is off. Received packets are grouped by message so users can compare which repeaters forwarded the same traffic. Tables show reception counts and latest or strongest RSSI and SNR values for each repeater. Scrolling charts show signal history and an estimated noise floor, with controls to zoom and pan across time. The app can place received packets on a 3D map at the phone’s GPS position, using height to represent SNR, and can show nearby nodes and the signal quality they measured for the user’s uplink. Decoded packet details, including raw hexadecimal data, can be reviewed in a table. Captures persist on disk across reloads or restarts, and data can be exported to or re-imported from CSV for offline review. Additional controls include repeater filtering, automatic removal of old data, optional packet beeps, a display window setting, device battery status, and light or dark themes. Captured data stays on the device; map tiles are fetched from external tile servers only while online. The app is free and open source under MIT.
